Get the full story on the health of your teeth, mouth and gums with a complete dental examination at Peak Dental. Oral issues can be lurking in your mouth that aren’t apparent to the naked eye, but with a complete dental exam, we can shed light on your overall oral health and help you determine the best next steps.

Complete Dental Exam

  • Cavity Check – Left too long, cavities can cause pain, decay and, eventually, require the removal of the tooth. To prevent cavities from getting to that stage, we check the teeth for cavities, damage, or decay.

  • Dental X-Rays – Some cavities, or damage to the teeth, are not visible to the human eye. X-rays help capture dental issues like decaying teeth or cavities before they cause more obvious problems.

  • Teeth Positioning – Crooked or mis-spaced teeth are more than just an aesthetic concern. To make sure your bite is correct, and won’t cause further problems down the road, we check the general spacing and positioning of your teeth and to make sure everything is properly aligned.

  • Mouth Check – There’s more to oral health than cavities. To ensure holistic oral health, we look for signs of teeth-clenching or grinding as well as if there are any signs of inflammation in the mouth and on the tongue.

  • Previous Dental Procedures –  To see how previous dental procedures are holding up, ie. fillings, root canals, crowns, etc., we assess each previous dental procedure you’ve had done. This helps us head off problems before they can affect your oral health.

  • Jaw Alignment – Jaws that are out of alignment can cause pain, discomfort, and excessive wear on teeth. To ensure proper alignment, we inspect the temporomandibular joint, which connects your jaw and skull.

  • Periodontal health assessment Your gum health is equally important to your oral health. At Peak Dental we work to ensure the entire mouth is in good health.

  • Oral cancer screening Oral cancer can be incredibly scary, but with proper oral care, we can catch oral cancer before it becomes a life-threatening problem.

Oral Cancer Screening

The tissue of the mouth is assessed through visual examination and palpation. If there are any lesions or areas of concern, they can be further examined through biopsies to confirm proper health. It’s not normal to have red or white spots that are persistent and do not heal within a couple of weeks. Also, any unexpected areas of pain are always important to have investigated. As part of the oral cancer screening, a health history will be taken to determine any habits that increase a person's risk for developing oral cancers.

Periodontal Health Assessment

Healthy gums are intrinsic to your oral and overall health. To ensure your gum health, we conduct a special periodontal assessment.

Periodontal Test – Using a special probe, we take an in-depth look at the condition of your gums, checking for periodontal pockets or other signs of gum disease which can lead to tooth and bone loss. We assess gum health at least once per year and will be able to see any changes that occur over this time.
